The National Weather Service’s Monday evening, Dec, 2, 2019 snowfall total predictions for north New Jersey.

Expected snowfall totals inched up for portions of northern New Jersey in a forecast released Monday afternoon.

Drivers should expect a range of winter weather hazards, including slippery roads and poor visibility through the Monday evening rush hour, the National Weather Service said. Snowfall rates more than an inch per hour were likely through the afternoon with the heaviest bands possible in Manhattan and northeastern New Jersey.

In an updated posted around 4 p.m. Monday, the service’s New York office reported a slight increase is expected snow totals. For Paramus, 7 inches was likely while West Milford could see 8 inches.

The NWS Mount Holly office said periods of steady, heavier snow would likely hit the Philadelphia region into New Jersey between 5 and 7 p.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service’s snowfall predictions for Monday evening, Dec. 2, 2019, in New Jersey.

“At least some travel impacts are likely in this zone by this evening,” the service said on social media.

Officials warned motorists to prepare for a possibly difficult commute home and stay off the roads if possible.

“As the snow continues, if you don’t have to be on the road today, please stay home,” the state Department of Transportation said on Twitter.
