Wednesday’s announcement that Ron Rivera is officially the new head coach of the Washington Redskins lacked shock value. The Athletic and other outlets began reporting about the former Carolina Panthers candidacy over the weekend and the two-time NFL coach of the year’s expected hiring Monday.

The new intrigue lies everywhere else.
